You'll see college kids meeting up for lunch, businessmen meeting up for a cup of coffee, adults dressed casually getting their regular omelet and coffee (or something like it). When you go to the diner, there is no specific crowd you come across. Union Street Diner is a casual restaurant that welcomes anyone. It's hard not to love this little hole in the wall place when the people are nice, the food is delicious (and cheap) and you can play music of your choice.
Union Street Diner is decorated with Ohio themed colors, words, signs, etc. There are bobcat paws around the place, OHIO written on the walls, green walls, green booths. It's a nice change of pace to eat somewhere that is themed according to our university. It's welcoming to the college students and I bet the local citizens of Athens like it, too. A place with welcoming decorations is never hard to dislike. Union Street Diner is meant to make you feel at home, no matter what the hour. It's open 24/7, you can get breakfast whenever (which I would recommend) and there are constantly customers.
Your description of the friendly environment, mixed with the cheap food lead me to visit this diner over the weekend. What you said about the employees was spot on. I was greeted with a smile and felt as though I was treated like family there. With that said I also like the set up of your blog. As we said in class, the picture placement was nice to break up the text for the reader. Your overall description of the diner convinced me to try the place out and made the Union Street Diner a new loving customer.
ReplyDeleteI was very intrigued to see what you had to say about the Union Street Diner considering I visit there quite a bit. Reading your blog I got the sense as if I was walking into the place and everything was just as I remembered it. The description of the workers, the local customers, and the description of the atmosphere that USD has. Your pictures breaking up your paragraphs really showed the atmosphere you spoke about. And you are right, this place is a genuine, casual restaurant that welcomes everyone that walks in. Although it is a hole in the wall like you said, it is a hole in the wall that everyone likes to visit again and again. With a wide diversity of customers this place has the right business model and is placed perfectly.
